I used to be very quiet and struggled to express myself.
But everything changed during a summer school program in Canada back in high school.
I’ll never forget the time I went to Starbucks and couldn't get my "Caramel Macchiato" just because of my pronunciation.
No matter how many times I tried, the barista didn't understand me.
I was embarrassed, but I didn't give up.
That moment taught me: "Language is for communication, not just for textbooks."
内気だった私が、自分に自信を持てるようになるまで
幼い頃の私は、家族にさえ本音を言えないほど内気でした。
そんな私を変えたのは高校2年生の時のカナダへの夏の短期留学です。
忘れもしないスターバックスでの出来事。
「キャラメル」の発音が上手くできなくて、キャラメルマキアート1つ注文できずに打ちのめされました。
何度言い直しても店員さんに分かってもらえ ず、本当に恥ずかしかったのですが、そこで諦めずに伝えようとした経験が、
「言語は完璧である必要はない、伝えるための道具なんだ」
という今の私の信念を作りました。

「好き！」という直感が、不可能を可能にする
「響きがセクシー！」という理由で始めたスペイン語。
大好きなアイドルのために始めた韓国語。
趣味や情熱から入る勉強は、ちっとも苦ではありませんでした。
スペインでの生活と、卒業できるのは半分だけと言われたスペイン語学科を卒業したことを通じて、
「言語はその国の文化そのものだ」ということを肌で感じてきました。

I started Spanish just because it sounded "sexy."
I started Korean because I loved K-pop.
Learning for "fun" and "passion" makes the impossible possible.
I survived a tough Spanish program where only half the students graduated, and I learned that culture and language are inseparable.
The courage to go solo.
I chose a different path—moving to Toronto alone instead of starting a typical career in Japan.
Finding an apartment, opening a bank account, and living solo in a foreign land built a level of confidence I never knew I had.
日本の「当たり前」を捨てて飛び出したトロントでのワーキングホリデー。
一人で家を探し、銀行口座を開く……そんな泥臭い経験の積み重ねが、私の英語を、そして私自身を強くしてくれました。
